Facebook’s announced a plan to change the way videos work on its news feeds, with clips soon to start automatically playing should you linger on them while scrolling past. Think of the incredibly minor amounts of inconvenience that’ll avoid.
Much like video sharing starlet Vine, the clips will begin playing in a muted fashion, so it shouldn’t be too glaring when someone’s baby and/or cat doing something cute or crapping in the right place for once bursts into life on your phone. Facebook says this system will begin to appear for mobile users over the next few weeks, on the pages of individuals and bands.
As for the question about the inevitable appearance of auto-play video ads, it says: “Over time, we’ll continue to explore how to bring this to marketers in the future,” meaning that, yes, it’ll apply to video adverts as well at some point. [Facebook]
