A Rare View of the Earth With Calm Skies

Because we're all usually so wrapped up with the weather in our immediate vicinity, it's easy to forget that, somewhere on the planet, there's usually a cyclone, depression or tropical storm brewing. Not so this week though — and this image from NASA shows the Earth's skies in rare, relative peace.

This image is a composite, made up of 14 polar satellite passes stitched together from September 8, 2013. At the time, there were no hurricanes, cyclones or tropical storms in the Atlantic, Pacific or Indian Ocean basins. That's rare — especially given that it's the height of the cyclone season in the northern hemisphere. Also, doesn't it look pretty? [NASA]
