Here’s the first trailer for Spike Jonze’s newest project, Her. It’s your typical romance, where a meek guy you can’t help feeling bad for (Joaquin Phoenix) falls in love with the cryptic Samantha (Scarlett Johansson), who mysteriously shows up and makes him teach her, and himself, how to enjoy life. But Samantha is an artificial-intelligence companion coded into what looks like a mobile phone.
The trailer gives us a hint at the rest. Stories that mix romance and machine intelligence always have a certain element of creepiness, and it looks like Her builds some powerful moments on that eerie foundation.
Look for it in theatres some time in November.
