Light-Up Shoes Are Back With This Cool Hack

Remember those shoes with lights on them designed so that your parents wouldn’t lose you at night? Well they’re back, and cooler than ever thanks to some nifty pressure-sensitive hacks.

Clayton Richter is the genius responsible for these glowing kicks, which light up as blue on normal mode and change colour depending on the pressure you apply to the ground when you walk.

Pressure is represented in a spectrum ranging from blue through to red, and it’s all controlled by a tiny Arduino board and four AA batteries stowed inside the sole.

After that it was just a matter of lining the corner of the shoes with an LED light strip and you’re away! There’s a really detailed description on his blog.
