Who doesn’t love a good fireworks show? People the world over — from Beijing to New York — set off pyrotechnics to celebrate everything from home runs to national independence. Mexico has a similar celebratory tradition, it just doesn’t even bother launching the pyros — intentionally that is.
Photographer Thomas Prior recently traveled to Tultepec, Mexico for the celebration of the country’s long-standing fireworks industry. The nine-day National Pyrotechnics Festival has been held annually since the mid-19th century and often draws over 100,000 participants. Seriously, how is everybody not on fire?
