The IRS’s Horrible Parody Video Is The Worst Star Trek Episode Ever

We all have our favourite Star Trek episodes, and the ones we think aren’t quite up to snuff. But here’s something we can all agree on: the IRS’s nearly $US60,000 Star Trek-inspired training video from 2010 would be the worst Star Trek episode ever. No contest.

This little ditty is so bad, in fact, that the IRS was actually compelled to apologise for it on Friday, after catching some flak about the waste of money from the US Congress. Somewhere in the shadows, this clip has a Gilligan’s Island-themed twin, but this one accounted for most of the budget and — apparently — most of the awfulness.

The IRS offered its apologies this way in a statement:

The IRS recognises and takes seriously our obligation to be good stewards of government resources and taxpayer dollars. There is no mistaking that this video did not reflect the best stewardship of resources.

They have yet to apologise to poor Star Trek, however. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that’s in order. [Washington Post]
