Facebook For Android 2.0: Completely Rebuilt For Speed

Facebook For Android 2.0: Completely Rebuilt For Speed

Today, Facebook is releasing an entirely new version of Facebook for Android. The biggest change you’ll notice, according to the engineering team, is that the app is way faster than it was before.

Facebook 2.0 is now coded as a completely native app rather than a native/webview hybrid. The result is that the app will load quicker and cache information locally for increased fluidity when you’re navigating the app. Facebook has also added an updated “story banner” that will show you new stories as they pop up in real-time, even if you’re way down low in your feed.

The update hasn’t popped up on our phones yet, but Facebook’s press release says you should expect to see it in Google Play today. The native code has been rewritten from the ground up. [Facebook]
