Whenever a new tech hits the stands, retailers rush to dump older models. That’s true of the Amazon Kindle e-readers, but because of weird retailing agreements, it means you get sweet deals. For example: the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi and the Kindle Touch 3G are both on sale at Dick Smith right now, and you’d be mad not to get them if you’re in the market for a Kindle.
The Kindle Touch line was exclusive to Dick Smith when it landed in Australia in March. The Wi-Fi-only model went on sale for an Australia Tax-laden $185, and the 3G model went up for $249. Since the new models have been announced, however, these prices have gone down. That’s despite the fact that Australia isn’t directly getting any Kindle Touch replacement in the new line-up. That means that the Touch is now the best value Kindle in Australia.
You can score the Wi-Fi-only Kindle Touch for $139 — down $46 — or you could score the Touch 3G for $189 — a saving of $60. Not a bad deal at all.
