Amazon Phone To Be Announced At Kindle Event?

Amazon is holding an event to announce what we expect is going to be two new Kindles in a few hours, and now we have a new indication that everyone's favourite forest will be announcing its new smartphone at the event, as well.

Along with the two rumoured 7-inch tablets, The Verge is reporting via sources placed within Amazon that a phone is definitely in the works.

It's being reported that the phone will run the a similar, heavily-modified version of Android that the Kindle Fire runs, along with Nokia Maps for navigation.

The Amazon event kicks off at 5pm AEST local time, so we'll have all the news for you soon enough. [The Verge]

I'm in two minds about this. On one hand, it's good to see a company experimenting and going out there with a product to test demand; on the other, I can't help but think Amazon should stick to what it's good at: ubiquitous content delivery and best-in-class consumption platforms.

Well if they didn't experiment we wouldn't have the kindle.

Cool. I think more players that get intO the phone market is better. More competition pushes company's to lower prices for more market share drives company's to make more innovative products to have one over the competition.

Pretty sure you got the time wrong there... as far as I know, it's 3:30 AM tomorrow morning AEST.

No Phone, only new gadgets with better stuffs and lower prices... at least thereĀ“s a data plan, to justify the rumors of a phone...
