Sony Xperia Go Can Be Fully Immersed In Water

Good news for anyone that's ever been pushed into a pool at a party with their phone on them: Sony today released the Xperia go to market and it's durable and fully immersible in water.

The 3.5-inch, scratch resistant and waterproof Xperia go launches today at Optus, AllPhones and Telechoice stores with Android 2.3, a 5-megapixel camera and a 1Ghz dual-core processor. It's cheap, too. The Xperia go will set you back $30 per month from Optus.

The party piece though is the immersion capability. The go is rated to protect against liquid ingress when immersed in 15cm of water for a period of 30 minutes.

Here's a screenshot from today's Sony Sessions showing it working underwater.

Is this the saving grace of party goers everywhere?

I thought this was going to be a norm feature because I recall earlier this year and last year the technology was being showcased on the S2, iPhone etc.

There's a technology coming out in Australia called Liquipel which we hope to show you tomorrow which might do this, but the go is rated for immersion out of the box which is nifty.

Hopefully containing details and prices of when Liquipel actually launches in Australia? Been following them and waiting patiently for a loooooooooooong time.

Telstra already do it, I don't know if it's just for Business customers though, one of mates who is a Telstra Business rep told me about how he's been demoing it to customers.

My lord, can you imagine if Apple implemented this sort of feature in the iPhone?

Let's hope Nokia shocks us all and the new Lumia is shock/water resistant. Miracles can happen, right?

Only good when you've got the headphone jack covered anyway...

My 14+ month old Motorolla Defy has this capability. Its actually great for cleaning finger prints off the screen. You just run it under that tap :)

meh my last generation sony erricson xperia active can do this

I have an xperia active and while reading the news in the shower is fun....although swiping the bloody thing is almost impossible....the speaker and microphone then need to completely dry out before you can use the thing. You can't hear anything and no one can hear you until its completely dry.
