Rumourmodo: Microsoft Is Maybe, Possibly Launching Its Own Tablet Device Next Week

Here's what we know: this Monday, at an as yet unconfirmed location somewhere in Hollywood, Microsoft with be making an important announcement. Now, Mashable is posting about what is being called a credibly rumour of a Microsoft-made tablet, running Windows RT (a version of Windows 8), intended to rival Apple's iPad.

This is a big deal, maybe!

Hollywood blog The Wrap cites "an individual with knowledge of the company", who claims the software giant would be "making a foray into a new hardware category that would put the company in direct competition with rival Apple" - tablets.

Previous attempts at a Microsoft-branded tablet have been unsuccessful and short-lived. The most recent was killed before it even got out the gate, right around the initial launch of the earliest iPad.

If the rumours are true, this Microsoft tablet will be entering a climate of already-stiff competition. We'll have to hold our thoughts for now, as hard facts and specs will be the ultimate test of its viability. Stay tuned for more. [Mashable]

Man I hope this turns out to be NOTHING like than Microsoft Kin disaster...

MS WinRT slate would be good. Nokia WinRT slate would be better...

Nokia Lumia Windows 8 RT Tablet would be interesting to go with the phone's. Maybe Lumia 1000.

I want a Windows 8 RT tablet that is as slim as the iPad2 with at least 10 hours battery and the square'er it is the better.

And with that, the hype train has left the station and catapulted into space.

You know I thought with MS at least 2 years behind the competition would find it impossibly difficult to catch up. Apple, and to a lesser degree Google, would have collected a huge amount of user data, feedback, suggestions, ideas... to propel their products. Instead I find iOS 4, 5 and 6 and Android 2, 3 and 4 to be incremental improvements - nothing revolutionary. I can see no reason why MS can't leapfrog them - unless of course Windows 8 is a dog.

Why would they bother? Surely it would make more sense to go the whole hog and make an x86 tablet to differentiate itself from iOS and Android krap?

Might be a year or two before x86 tablets can be as portable as ARM tablets. Currently my iPad acts as pen and paper substitute and has helped me go paperless. Have to use the iPad because the apps I use are not available on Android. But I have spent some time with the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy 7" and I think that this form factor would be best when I am away from my desk. There is no way x86 can be made in a 5" and 7" form factor so there is still a place for ARM tablets.

Microsoft. Ahead of the game.................... NOT!!

Brilliant, I love it when Microsoft gives Apple a good thrashing with superior hardware and systems, much like the Zune did.

It saddens me to see a company that used to do their own thing, good and bad but at least innovative, basically do nothing more than copy others.
