This Is What It Looks Like When Fighters Fly Directly At You In Anger


For much of the world, the Falklands War seems like a historical blip — but not if you were part of this insanely daring (or insane) attack against the HMS Broadsword, where two A-4 Skyhawks made a shockingly low run.

The bombing raid was ultimately unsuccessful — one of the jets missed its target, and the other dropped a dud that bounced off the ship. But it’s absolutely nuts that one of the Brits onboard had the guts to stand and snap this photograph of the two planes that could have easily killed him and his crewmates. The photo was taken 30 years ago this weekend, but I’m sure it’s never seemed any less vivid to the photographer. [Aviationist]
