France, which draws 75 per cent of its electricity from nuclear reactors, is currently using 10 fire trucks to try to stop one of those reactors from being on fire.
The BBC reports “Fire crews have been rushed to a nuclear reactor in northern France after an escape of smoke”, but that the reactor has been shut down and the company managing the plant claims “the site is secure”. We’ll wait and see. [BBC]
Update: Reuters reports the fires, “caused by hot oil leaking from a pump inside the reactor building,” have been extinguished.
