When it comes to skin care, I’ve long known that I don’t put much effort in, but I didn’t expect a wild bear to put me to shame with its fancy-pants use of a stone to keep itself looking good.
In fact, it’s the first time a bear’s ever been observed using a tool, and was spotted by Volker Deecke of the University of Cumbria, UK, who was on holiday in Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park at the time, reports New Scientist. It even seems to have taken care over the whole affair, using two different rocks in the process and performing the action for over a minute at a time. The finding appears in Animal Cognition.
I know this means one thing: I need to up my beauty regime, and quickly. I’m not letting a bear embarrass me. [Animal Cognition via New Scientist]
