It Takes A 700% Increase In Hacking To Attract Attention On Capitol Hill


Senators are often slow to react to issues that involve technology, not least because they’re hardly the youngest people in the world. When it comes to hacking, though, it seems to have taken a huge surge in activity to make them stop and take notice.

The New York Times reports that senators have recently looked at the number of attacks on critical US infrastructure systems, and noticed an increase to 86 attacks between October and February — a leap from 11 in the same period the year before.

That 700 per cent increase seems to have piqued interest on Capitol Hill. While the Obama administration have been pushing new cybersecurity legislation for a while, the New York Times reports that lawmakers are finally taking notice. At last!
