Asus Spits Out First HD, LTE Transformer Tablet

Asus is on a roll with its rebranded ‘Transformer Pads' tablet line, pushing out yet another version. The Infinity series takes the Prime and runs with it, packing either a Tegra 3 or a Snapdragon S4 and a 10.1-inch full-HD screen.

The tablet basically looks like the latest aluminium-clad Transformer Prime, but packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip for a 3G-equpped version, and a Tegra 3 for the Wi-Fi-only model.

The 8.5mm thick Infinity will sport a beast of a 10.1-inch 1080p (1920×1200) Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass 2-covered screen; 1GB of RAM; 16/32/64GB of storage; an eight-megapixel shooter on the back; a front-facing two-megapixel video chat cam, and HDMI-out. It'll come with Ice Cream Sandwich as you might well expect, and will keep churning for 10-hours without the dock and 16-hours with the keyboard attached.

If Asus irons out the Prime's issues with the Infinity series (it's got a plastic RF window across the back for Wi-Fi and GPS), this could be a right corker of an Android tablet. On paper I'm not sure why you'd pick a dual-core chip over a Tegra 3 quad-core chip, but benchmarks show Qualcomm's new S4 could be an absolute blinder. No word on pricing, but we should see the Infinity in both amethyst grey and champagne gold before the second half of the year — time to start salivating over an aluminium Android tablet again. Come out before the Ipad 3 and you've got yourself a deal :)

I hate to say it Will but when it comes to Ipad and an android device you buy for the OS that supports you. Some people like the controlled interface of blocks with no ability to customise, that's great if it is what you like. If you want to control your experience, have it do much more you go android.
So really it's a choice, iOS or Android. You then chose the device to suit your needs. If you buy an iPad because it came out before the new Prime, you are missing the point.

Wigets are great and all, I am an android fan myself, but really all we need these things to do is launch a browser, everything else iOS or ICS can offer is just an added bonus.

Actually I just buy what ever I think will be the funnest to own. I've had both iOS and android for phones and tablets. So ye, my comment shouldn't have been about release time. It should have been about features etc, you're right about that.

So is this tablet the T700something that was supposed to come out?
If they fixed the wifi issues I will certainly get one :)
