Greubel Forsey’s GMT watch promised to put the whole world on your wrist. But Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw totally one-ups that designer timepiece with his Aquarius Planetarium that includes orbiting versions of the Sun and six planets.
Forget just the world, true megalomaniacs and super-villains should set their sights on the heavens — even if mankind has yet to develop the technology needed to get humans past the moon. So that’s where Christiaan’s new watch comes in, bringing the heavens to you with what he claims to be the world’s smallest mechanical planetarium.
I’m not entirely sure why it only includes Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn orbiting the Sun. I doubt it’s a cost-cutting measure, since the watch’s dial is made from intricately carved gold and features a platinum case. That $US100,000+ price tag at least comes with some exclusivity, since only 12 of these watches will be produced, one for each sign of the zodiac.
