LG Outlines Australian Ice Cream Sandwich Smartphone Updates

I don’t know about you guys, but all this talk about Ice Cream Sandwiches is making me mighty hungry for an Android update. The problem is that the actual updates have been rarer than vegetables in Google’s codename standards. Last night LG promised all that’s about to change – *cue excited drumroll* – when the company announces when it will upgrade a few of its phones to ICS some time next month. (*queue sad trombone*)

To be fair, LG did confirm that the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black and the Optimus 3D will all definitely be getting ICS at some point, although the crux of the announcement seemed to be that the company would be announcing when at some point in December.

“LG confirms today that the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich OS) will be initially available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year: Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D.

We are also continuing to evaluate the Android 4.0 ( ICS) OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the software available on as many LG smartphones as possible.

In December this year, the forthcoming upgrade schedule and additional specific models for the ICS OS upgrade will be posted on www.lg.com.au and LG’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/lgaustralia)

Please refer to the information on the LG web site which details upgrade information for existing LG handset and stay tuned for more updates from LG.”

So in other words, the days of using your Android smartphone as a Maxibon are creeping closer, millimetres at a time…
