You’d think the UK government would be able to at least afford A4 paper for its printers, considering the amount we pay in taxes. But according to the UK Telegraph, the HMRC forgot to order enough paper to print tax reminders.
Luckily the government is being lenient to those who didn’t receive a reminder to pay their tax by July 31, giving the taxpayers an extra 30 days to pay without racking up the additional charges for late payment. It does make you wonder if there’s a better reminders system out there, though. Email notifications wouldn’t work, as people would just claim they never received them – but how about SMS reminders? Having said that, I’m sure many Brits are welcoming the extra 30 days they now have to cough up the dosh. [The Telegraph]
