Man Wakes From Coma In A Morgue Fridge

An old man dies. Such is life, my son. And for all our sadness, life surely must go on. Except when the old man didn’t actually die, and woke up inside the morgue a day later. Then it’s time for an explanation.

Like, what? An 80-year-old South African man got the rudest of awakenings yesterday after being reported dead by his family and then shut up in a morgue fridge for 21 hours. The undertaker even checked the man’s vitals to be sure he was dead. Baffling.

The real kicker is how the morgue owner, Ayanda Maqolo, reacted to the poor old man screaming to freed. Especially after his employees seemed so sure it was a ghost:

“I couldn’t believe it!” Maqolo said. “I was also scared. But they are my employees and I had to show them I wasn’t scared, so I called the police.”

After police arrived, the group entered the morgue together.

“I was glad they had their firearms, in case something wanted to fight with us,” Maqolo said.

In other words, the man could very well have been shot. Think about that. You manage to get out of the freezer you’ve been trapped in for almost a day only to be shot by people who think you’re a ghost. Fit only for the blackest of comedies. Thankfully, the old man is safe and back with his family. [AP via The Daily What]
