Is it just me, or does this new building in Aomori look like a rectangular version of everybody’s favourite Adam’s Family member?
That’s probably not what Molo, d/dt and Frank la Riviere Architects had in mind when they designed the Nebuta-no-ie Warasse, with 12m tall steel ribbons running around the entire building. It opened in January in honour of the paper lantern celebration that takes place in Aomori every August. Each year, the festival’s five best paper floats will win a spot on display in the bronzy building. Here’s to hoping the first set is just as strange and shiny as the building they’ll be housed in.
