Is Microsoft Azure Powering Apple’s iCloud?

Apple fans love to bash Microsoft, but they might have to hedge a bit if these latest iCloud rumours turn out to be true. AppleInsider is reporting to have confirmation that iCloud is powered by Microsoft’s Azure.

The folks at InfiniteApple sent files to and from iPhones with iOS 5 beta installed and monitored the traffic. They concluded that iCloud doesn’t actually store actual content. Instead, it simply “manages links” to content stored elsewhere. It must be noted that Apple’s massive new data centre is only just coming online, so this may be a temporary solution. Still, how great would it be if the defining feature of Apple’s year turns out to be powered by Microsoft? [InfiniteApple via ZDnet]
