Ah, springtime. The birds chirp, the grass brightens, and idiots thaw out and begin to yap. Idiots like top evangelical personality and radio host David Barton, who thinks the movement against net neutrality goes back to the 17th century. OK!
Speaking out against net neutrality as a somehow socialist tenant, Barton quacked the following:
That’s a Biblical principle, that’s a historical principle, we have all these quotes from Ben Franklin, and Jefferson and Washington and others on free market and how important that is to maintain. That is part of the reason we have prosperity. This is what the Pilgrims brought in, the Puritans brought in, this is free market mentality. Net Neutrality sounds really good, but it is socialism on the Internet.
I’m actually pretty sure Franklin was quite vocal in his views about bandwidth throttling, but hey, I’m no historian. [TPM via Fark]
