Developers Cubed: Celebrating Aussie Developers

title=Developers! Developers! Developers! Steve Ballmer’s favourite sweat-laden catchcry is a reminder that all those great apps we spend so much time using on our phones and PCs are made by someone, somewhere. Developers Cubed looks to get a behind the scenes look at some of Australia’s up and coming development scene. This week, we speak to Peter Webb, the man behind the Mandala Live Wallpaper app for Android.

title=Who are you and where do you work?
My name is Peter Webb; my company is called Stollznow Consulting, and for Android development (which is a hobby, not a job) I work from home.

Why do we know you? What have you created?
Mandala Live Wallpaper for Android phones.

What platforms do you develop for?
Android plus C#/.Net

What are you working on right now?
Enhancing Mandala.

How did you get into development?
Started my career (in 1978) as a computer programmer. After a 30 year gap got back into it for fun.

What do you think about the rise and rise of App Stores? How has it influenced your titles?
Massive change. This isn’t just a new distribution channel; it is an entirely new market allowing high volume distribution of low cost (eg $2) software. It is a complete game changer.

What’s your favourite app that you didn’t create?
Screebl. It should have been part of the O/S.

What phone do you use? Why?
HTC Desire. Fast with superb display.

What advice do you have for budding Aussie developers out there?
None.
