Fruit Salad Could Be Key To The Car Design Of The Future

Between the banana fuel the Australians are working on, and this Brazilian plastic made from bananas, pineapples and other fibrous fruit, transport of the future might just resemble Carmen Miranda.

The plastic, being worked on at the Sao Paulo State University, is apparently 3-4 times stronger yet 30 per cent lighter than petroleum plastic, meaning cars themselves would be lighter and stronger – helping increase fuel economy, for starters. The plastic would also be biodegradable, so kinder to our good planet also. [Wired]
