Volkswagen’s New XL1 Plug-In Hybrid Promises 0.9 L/100km

Volkswagen is showing off their new XL1 prototype at the Qatar Motor Show, and they’re proud of the fact it gets 0.9 L/100km with the plug-in electric/gas hybrid engine. But they’re also excited it will go into production.

The XL1 has a 2.0 litre, 47hp turbodiesel engine, along with a 27hp electric engine. On electric power alone, it can cover 35km. More importantly, however, is that this prototype is definitely going into production, according to the German automaker. Once the car makes it out of testing, they’ll produce about a hundred XL1s, with priority going to German buyers. It will also become the most efficient hybrid vehicle in the world.
