Billy Connolly Is The Newest Hobbit Cast Member

Billy Connolly is many things. A great Scottish comedian. A man not afraid to get his kit off, even when asked not to. Now, he can add “mighty dwarven warrior” to that list, as he’s just been confirmed in the role of Dain Ironfoot in The Hobbit.

The confirmation comes from Weta’s site, with the following comment attributed to Peter Jackson:

“We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connelly, the Big Yin himself.”

It’s that whole “big” thing in relation to dwarves that I struggle with a little. I’m sure that Connolly is up to the acting challenge of the role, but I’m going to have a hard time watching him and not thinking of… well… this.

Disclaimer: This is Billy Connolly in full flow, AKA “Not safe for most workplaces due to strong language”, just in case that wasn’t obvious.
