On Tuesday evening, A Wrinkle in Time and New Gods director Ava DuVernay took to Twitter with a major Star Wars announcement, though it wasn't about herself. For the first time in the franchise's history, a black woman will direct a significant portion of a Star Wars film. Her name is Victoria Mahoney; remember it.
Did you feel that? There has been a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of Rey theorists suddenly cried out in terror... and were suddenly silenced. Well, actually, they're probably about to start shrieking about clones and Kenobis and whatnot again, because actor Simon Pegg just reignited the debate around Rey's parentage.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have ended with Rey and Finn hugging it out after spending the entire movie apart, but I've remained afraid that something would drive them apart again. We were pretty surprised to learn that J.J. Abrams would be taking back the new Star Wars trilogy he originally started, replacing Colin Trevorrow as the director of the ninth film in the series. But why did Abrams agree to return? He said he wants to "do better" by the characters and their story.
