But it's a very specific kind of murder.
Before he became the Red Hood, Jason Todd met a grisly fate at the hands of the Joker in the iconic A Death in the Family storyline, including a horrifying beating with a crowbar. At least now in Injustice 2, Jason can enact some justice (both poetic and physically) against the clown prince of crime as payback.
The first Injustice game -- and the fantastic tie-in comic that accompanied it -- told a story that pitted Batman and Superman against each other in a battle between heroism and villainy, and how good people can be driven to do horrible things. Injustice 2 isn't really about that, and that's both interesting and at times disappointing.
Damn it, we were so close to getting one of Milestone Media's best characters in the new superhero fighting game. Heroes and villains from all over the DC Comics multiverse are part of the roster in Injustice 2 but, for the most part, they come from the well-known core of characters clustered around the Justice League. It would have been nice to get a playable fighter with roots from another fictional landscape entirely, which is what almost happened with Static.
On one hand, Injustice 2 delivers a funhouse-mirror take on DC Comics' biggest characters, exploring the characters in intriguingly divergent ways. On the other hand, because it's a fighting game, all the story needs to do is keep generating reasons for former Justice Leaguers to punch each other across the world. Injustice 2 gets to have its cake and eat it, too, and makes you want to keep on gorging right along alongside it.
Video: While the CW's Barry Allen might have been forbidden from mucking with the time stream (because he's a big ol' dork), the Barry Allen of Injustice 2 is more than happy to use his superspeed to beat you up in the past, present or future. And he looks pretty damn good while doing so.
