Remember the first time you tried alcohol? How it was gross and off-putting but eventually it got better? Later, maybe you grew to like it but you always knew something wasn't right about it? That was the first (admittedly strange) thing I thought of after seeing Disney's Christopher Robin, a movie that starts weird, gets better and leaves you feeling just a little mixed up.
Say the words “Winnie the Pooh” and everyone thinks of the exact same image: Yellow bear, red shirt, jar of honey. It’s an image that’s been ingrained in culture for almost a century, one that felt as though it would last forever.
Well, not so fast. With Disney’s new film Christopher Robin, Pooh has been given an upgrade and entered a digital world.
Most of the world will get to see the depressing adventures of a grown-up Christopher Robin in Disney’s Christopher Robin live-action movie in several weeks, but China won’t — because the country’s film authorities have just denied the film a release, with rumours swirling about an old meme as the possible reason.
Video: Disney’s upcoming live-action Christopher Robin film will be a story about how Pooh and the other animals from the Hundred Acre Wood journey to the real world in order to meet their long-lost friend. But it’s also a movie about how Christopher Robin will learn to rediscover the magic that made his time in the Wood so memorable. And we can all use a little magic.
Christopher Lloyd is game for a fourth Back to the Future film. The Walking Dead recruits another time-skip character from the comics.
