Hi Gizmodo, are you able to recommend a good modem? I'm with Internode. I need a modem router, with wired ports and wireless, and support for naked DSL. In terms of the wi-fi area it needs to cover, I'm in a pretty small townhouse. Someone's buying it for me as a gift, so price is flexible. Thanks, Mork

Dear Lifehacker, I just bought a new laptop with USB type C charging. The manufacturer's wall charger is rated 45W, and is not modular - the USB-C cable is all one piece with the power adaptor. I'd love to minimise the gear I take on the go, so ideally I'd like a wall charger that is modular so I can plug in a micro USB cable for my phone / Bluetooth headset, and a USB-C cable for my laptop.

Dear Gizmodo, my 15-year old son is bugging me to buy him a PlayStation 4 Pro console for his birthday - he's even willing to put half the money towards it. The thing is, he already owns a PlayStation 4 which still works fine. Is this upgrade necessary to play future PlayStation games or will it just be a waste of money?

Hi Gizmodo, I just wanted to know why with Blu-ray discs, some of the are softer than the others. As in, when you slightly bend them they are more flexible. Some discs even feel flexible when you hold them in your hand. Just want to know why. The quality is the same, just curious. Please let me know. I don't know who else to ask.

Hiya Gizmodo! My 15 year old son has really started getting into photography -- it has quickly become one of his favourite subjects at school. I'd love to get him a decent camera (under $1000) that can grow with him and his skills, for a few years at least. What's the best direction to go in? Cheers, Mum

Dear Gizmodo, I’ve been saving up to buy my first car for a while and I’ve just hit $10K, which is more than enough to buy something second-hand. However, I’m not sure if I should keep saving to buy a new car instead. I need something new enough to be able to connect to my phone, and something which won’t cost too much in repairs in the next few years -- so is it worthwhile to keep saving to buy new instead of second-hand?

Hi Gizmodo, I was wondering if you could help me. I have a question. I have been the proud owner of a very nice Canon 7D camera for the last few years, and have some nice lenses to boot -- a 24-70mm Canon L lens, a 30mm Sigma prime, and a 50mm f/1.8 Canon prime.

But I'd like to upgrade. I'm eyeing off the Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras, but I don't have the money to just go out and buy something off the shelf. So I was wondering: what if I trade my camera in? Or should I sell it as second-hand on a forum somewhere? Yours sincerely, Totally Not Alex Walker

Hi Gizmodo! Long time reader, first time Asker. Hopefully the old adage of there being no stupid questions holds true here. So, I reside in the Guantanamo Bay of the Apple universe and, as such, watch most of my content via two Apple TVs (third and fourth gen). What has me puzzled is that they both stream Netflix in HD silky smooth, and movies via iTunes are completely downloaded minutes after starting them.

TV series via iTunes on the other hand are painfully slow, usually taking around 60-200 minutes for a half hour show to become watchable in SD. My question is, beyond my home network and my ISP is there some factor in the way this content is delivered that could account for the tremendous difference in performance?

Dear Gizmodo, I'm looking to build a new PC that's capable of running high-end video games and 3D graphics applications. In other words, it's going to get pretty hot! I'm seriously considering a water cooling solution but don't really know where to start. So my questions are: is water cooling worth the effort and what type of skills do I need to pull it off?

Dear Gizmodo, I want to watch the State of Origin online as I have no TV at work. I am not a Telstra mobile customer so I CANNOT watch it using NRL Footy Pass. How can I watch it online in Australia? Arrrrgh, help me! There is nothing on the internet that clearly describes how to get it. I'd like to watch the games on my laptop, preferably for free.

Dear Gizmodo, The next season of Game Of Thrones kicks off this Monday and it's one of my favourite shows. Unfortunately, I've had to cancel my $50 subscription to Foxtel due to financial difficulties. I know plenty of Australians watch the show for free by using sites like The Pirate Bay and Kickass Torrents. How likely am I to get fined if I do the same? And does buying the Blu-ray at a later date absolve me of wrongdoing?

Hi Gizmodo, my fiancée and I are about to move into our first home, and our current TV is too big and bulky to mount in the house on the wall where we want our TV. We're not TV connoisseurs and we don't need all the latest and greatest features, we simply want the thinnest TV we can get with adequate image quality. Ideally the TV will be between 42 and 47 inches and $750 or less. I'm aiming for 2 inches or thinner, though we could go up to 2.5 inches. Used/refurbished TVs are okay with us. What should we get and where should we look? Thanks! Josh.

Dear Gizmodo, My mother wants some Bluetooth headphones. She doesn’t like ones that go in her ears, but also plans on using them on walks. She also doesn’t want to splash out mega bucks for the Parrot or the Bose SoundLinks. What are some good Bluetooth headphones that fit all these criteria? Cheers, Loyal Gizmodo Reader.
