Last week, at least 8000 barrels of crude oil gushed into the northern Amazon rainforest in Peru, creating one of the worst spills the region has seen in years. State oil company Petroperú is blaming a local indigenous community for sabotaging a pipeline and triggering the spill, but the leader of Peru's Wampis Nation, whose members make up that community, denies the accusations.

Video: The Amazon rain forest is full of enormous flora and fauna that are more than happy to kill you without blinking an eye. But compared to say, a giant centipede or a harpy eagle, the giant earthworm seems downright friendly. If the prospect of befriending a 1.5m worm is your cup of tea, that is.
