Nokia’s proudly showing off the Symbian S^4 user interface to all and sundry, which is expected to fall onto phones sometime early next year. We may still be awaiting Symbian^3, but Symbian^4 looks like a breath of fresh UI air.
Symbian’s problem isn’t with capabilities, it’s with user experience: namely the clunky, awkward, and occasionally terrible S60 interface. Enter Maemo, to save the day! And also, apparently, a newer, friendlier Symbian. Nokia wants to get better, please.
And this is actually a good thing. Why? Because it means a major Symbian UI redesign is on the way.
