Slowly but surely, the kilometre-high Kingdom Tower is coming to life. This week construction is set to move above ground after the tricky foundation stage is completed. Part of $US20 billion development dubbed Kingdom City, the tower will be at least 173m taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Forget about the 1km high Kingdom Tower. There will be a building higher than that. This is it, the Azerbaijan Tower. It will be 50m higher, have 189 floors and looks like a beautifully shiny glass, steel and concrete monolith of crap.
Saudi Arabia has just given the OK to start construction on the Kingdom Tower, the world’s first mile-high skyscraper. The tower will be built in the coastal city of Jeddah and is set to cost a whopping cost $US30 billion.
