Democracy Sausages Are Coming To Instagram (For Good Reasons)

Instagram is getting political in the lead up to the 2019 Federal Election in the most crucial way possible – democracy sausage stickers.

From Thursday May 16 through to Saturday May 18th you’ll be able to add democracy sausages to your insta stories to celebrate voting like a bloody true blue bloody Aussie mate.

The snag is just one of four short-term election stickers that will be added to the platform. The others include ‘My Vote Counts’, ‘We Voted’ and ‘Very Important Voter’ and all were designed by Australian contemporary artist Tony Albert.

But it’s not just about whacking a fun sticker onto social. They’re also being used to provide voting information, such as where the closest voting booths are.

Tapping on one of the election stickers in a story will allow you to click through to the Australian Electoral Commission’s (AEC) website to access more info.

“Australians share over one million Instagram Stories every day, so we’ve added these fun features to encourage people to express themselves on Election Day and connect with valuable information from the AEC,” said John Tass-Parker, Head of Politics and Government at
Instagram.

It wouldn’t be surprising if we get hit with a recount this weekend, so here’s to hoping that the stickers will be up for a few extra days to accommodate our garbage fire political situation.

Get out and vote, Australia.
