LG’s First 5G Phone Has Leaked

We’ve known for a little while now that LG would be debuting its first 5G phone this year. We even had the name – the LG V50 ThinQ. But it looks we may have just gotten the first actual images of the device.

LG just confirmed its new flagship, the G8 ThinQ.”]

We can thank renowned leaker Evan Blass for this one, who posted an alleged image of the V50 ThinQ on February 16th.

While there’s no confirmation of accuracy, Blass tends to be on point when it comes to high profile leaks. It also makes sense for the timeline – it had already been confirmed to debut on Sprint (A U.S. telco) during the first half of 2019.

The Verge is theorising that the device will make an appearance at Mobile World Congress next week, along with the already-announced G8 ThinQ.

If you look closely at the leaked image, February 24 is on the lock-screen display. Plus, a Korean press release had already confirmed February 24 as the release date of its first 5G phone.

The same press release conveniently provided some of the device specs – a Snapdragon 855 processor, 4,000mAH battery and a largher vapor chamber cooling system.

It also contained a minimalist mock up to highlight the cooling system.

The image itself reveals a triple-camera setup at the rear, and a dual-camera setup at the front. The fingerprint scanner also seems to be firmly planted at the back of the device, meaning that it won’t be following in the footsteps of Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro, or the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S10.

We also don’t know if and when this device might land in Australia. At CES 2019 Telstra announced that it have made some exclusive 5G phone partnerships for 2019, but the telco didn’t confirm with who.

We’ll keep you up to date with all the confirmed details during Mobile World Congress next week.
