Oppo R17 Pro: Australian Price, Specs And Release Date

We may only be a few months out from the launch of the Find X, but Oppo isn’t done releasing 2018 phones just yet. It has just announced two new mid-range phones – the Oppo R17 and R17 Pro. Here’s what you can expect, and when you can get your hands on them in Australia.

The heroes of the R17 series are the improved camera tech and fast charging. The R17 Pro is equipped with a a 25MP front camera, as well as a triple rear camera setup (12MP/20MP/Time of Flight) with F2.4/F1.5 smart aperture, optical image stabilisation and an AI Ultra-Clear Engine.

The latter is specifically designed to assist with low-light photography through AI. The engine will not only pick the best shooting resolution, but also create a clearer picture through tools such as anti-shake, highlight suppression, area adjustment and noise removal. The included TOF functionality also enables the R17 series to be AR and VR ready.

When it comes to charging, the Pro is equipped with the same SuperVOOC flash charge from the Find X, and it will get the Pro to 40 per cent in ten minutes.

Down in the guts you’ll find 6GB RAM and 128GB storage for both devices – as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset for the R17 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 for the Pro. And they’ll be running on Oppo’s own ColorOS 5.2 operating system, which is based on Android 8.1.

Both phones also sport a 6.4-inch FHD+ Waterdrop inspired Screen with Gorilla Glass 6. You also have two choice of colours for each different model. The Pro has Emerald Green and Radiant Mist – the latter of which looks quite similar to the Twilight version of the Huawei P20 Pro.

Speaking of Huawei, you’ll also find an on-screen fingerprint unlock on both R17 devices, which is reminiscent of the Mate 20 Pro that was launched last week.

“OPPO is known for delivering camera technology that continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in a smartphone. The R17 & R17 Pro are full of cutting-edge features that showcase what OPPO is capable of, said Michael Tran, managing director at OPPO Australia.

“In particular, we are excited to bring the R17 Pro’s Ultra Night Mode and TOF 3D camera capabilities to Australia. Utilising the latest in smartphone camera technology, OPPO will help its customers seize the night and take advantage of new and exciting camera applications as they come to market. OPPO is excited to be at the forefront of this technology in Australia,”, said Michael Tran, Managing Director at OPPO Australia.

Oppo’s R17 series will be available in Australia from November 12 and will have an RRP of $699 for the R17 and $899 for the R17 Pro. You will be able to get them through JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Woolworths Mobile, Mobileciti and Telechoice.

If you’re interested in a plan, you’ll be able to get them through Vodafone.

That’s 8GB of RAM we’re talking about, not storage. A month later, the company appears to have one-upped itself, with online sources revealing a 10GB version is on the cards.”]
