Stan has released a sneak peek of its massive new original drama Bloom.
The supernatural mystery is out this summer and stars Jacki Weaver, Phoebe Tonkin and Bryan Brown.
Ahead of the premiere, Stan has given us our first look at Bloom, which was filmed on location in Victoria.
The groundbreaking six-part series takes place one year after a catastrophic flood hits an idyllic country town, where a mysterious new plant appears with the power to restore youth.
With its teaser tagline, ‘You’re only young twice’, the show promises to explore themes about the scarcity of time, the impulses of youth and the life regrets that come with age.
“I would call it a supernatural drama,” producer Sue Seeary told Gizmodo. “There are mystery elements to it but it’s also a very strong character drama. It’s definitely got its own unique voice, which is exciting.
“The premise of Bloom finds a town left in a kind of purgatory. This terrible event happened, they’ve lost loved ones, and a lot of them can’t really move on. There’s a bit of a surreal element to it where they’re not moving forward.”
It was created by Glen Dolman and directed by John Curran, who worked to give Bloom an “unworldly sense” when it comes to aesthetics.
Two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver transforms to play Gwen, a previously successful actress now suffering from Alzheimer’s. Bryan Brown takes on the role of Gwen’s loving husband Ray.
Tonkin, best known for The Originals and Vampire Diaries, portrays the younger, rejuvenated version of Gwen, alongside Ryan Corr, who also stars as youthful stranger Sam.
Bloom premieres on Stan this summer.
