‘Leaked’ Oppo Find X Video Shows Pop-Up Camera And 3D Facial Scanner

Oppo announced the Find X in Paris last month, and one of the biggest surprises was a pop-up camera that uses a 3D facial scanner to unlock the phone. We have been super curious to see it out in the real world, and now we may have.

The front-facing 25-megapixel camera on the Find X includes a 3D structured light mode that can project 15,000 dots in order to build a 3D model of a user’s face — which can be used for Smart Selfie capture, as well as well as mobile payments through Alipay.

But the biometric unlocking has been the hero of Oppo’s narrative so far.

Renowned leaker Ice Universe recently uploaded a video of someone playing with and unlocking what seems to be a legit Find X. The person swipes up on the screen which triggers the camera to pop up, unlock and reveal their Incredibles wallpaper.

They proceed to turn the phone over, showing off the curved edges, thin bezels edges and back (with the Find X branding) and then unlocking it again from the front.

If this is the real deal, Ice Universe are correct in their commentary – it’s really fast. Plus, it looks cool. But it does make one wonder how the mechanics will hold out over a long period of time if you’re constantly popping it up to unlock your phone.

Oppo’s Find X will be releasing in Europe in August — we are still waiting on Australian pricing and a release date.

It includes some interesting design choices, the most significant being its stealth camera that only pops up when you turn the phone on or open the camera app.

Oh also, it has 3D facial modelling that you can use to shop online.”]
