This $40,000 Workstation And Gaming Rig Is Terrible

We could all imagine better uses for $US30,000 ($39,942), but if you’ve got the money to blow, I guess you could use it to build this utterly ridiculous workstation / gaming setup. And once you were done, you’d have a long, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself: “Am I an idiot?”

Yes, yes you are.

The core of the setup from Unbox Therapy, a YouTube channel that specialises in being as loud and obnoxious as possible, is the chair, an Imperator Works IWR1. Unfortunately, it’s currently unavailable on Amazon, so I have no idea how much it costs, though I think it’s fair to say this contributes significantly to the price.

Or not. Apparently, the PC used is $US20,000 ($26,628) alone. After $2749 for the i9-7980XE and around $2600 for the pair of ASUS ROG GTX 1080 Tis… you have to wonder: were they trying to make the ultimate gaming setup, or just blowing as much money as possible?

In terms of other outrageous components, the central monitor is next in line: a 42.5-inch LED monitor from LG (43UD79-B). Either side at 24-inch LGs in portrait mode, which to be honest, I’m not that sold on, especially as they aren’t lined up well at all.

Oh and there’s a PS4.

So yeah, this isn’t so much the “ultimate” gaming rig (which would involve a self-built PC, surely?), as it is a lesson in the ills of throwing money at a problem.
