The New Razer Blade Is Thinner, And A Little Heavier

Ever since it was first released, the Razer Blade gaming laptops have always been a gorgeous piece of tech. The 2018 refresh continues that trend, and it's bloody tiny to boot.

Details around the Razer Blade were released under embargo this afternoon, with Razer confirming that the laptop will be available in three main variations: a 1080p model with a 60Hz IPS screen, GTX 1060 and a 256GB HDD; the same specs but with a 144Hz IPS screen and a 512GB SSD; and a model with the 144Hz screen, 256GB/512GB SSD and a GTX 1070.

The full spec list, regardless of configuration, is as follows:

  • CPU: i7-8750H (6 Cores/12 Threads, 2.2 GHz/4.1 GHz)
  • Display: 15.6-inch IPS 1920x1080, 60Hz/144Hz models, or 15.6-inch IPS 4K capacitive multi-touch
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 / 1070 Max-Q Design
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 2667MHz dual-channel, 32GB supported
  • HDD: 256GB or 512GB PCIe SSD, 2TB supported
  • Battery: 80Wh rechargeable lithium-ion polymer, NVIDIA Optimus supported
  • Weight: 2.07kg (1080p models), 2.15kg (4K model)
  • Dimensions: 16.8mm x 355mm x 235mm (GTX 1060), 17.3mm x 355mm x 235mm (GTX 1070)

For those keeping score, the specs mean that the 2018 Blade is a bit heavier - but thinner - than the previous model. The Blade I tested last year weighed in at 1.86kg and was 17.9mm high.

Both 2018 versions are a fraction smaller, but they're heavier too. The base 2018 Blade is around 210g heavier (1.86kg to 2.07kg) than last year's model, while the 4K model packs on an extra 200g (1.95kg to 2.15kg). The battery in last year's model was only 70Wh, however.

Razer adds that every display is individually calibrated before shipping, and both models have 4.9mm bezels with a webcam located at the top. Local pricing and availability was not available at the time of writing, although pricing on the 1080p models is expected shortly.

The new Razer Blade will be sold through the Razer.com website once it is made available locally. We'll get hands on with the new Blade very soon, and we'll let you know what it's like.
