The Sony Xperia XZ2 Is Now Available In Australia

After being unveiled at World Mobile Congress earlier in the year, Sony’s new flagship Experia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are now available here in Australia.

The Xperia XZ2 has quite a few firsts to boast – it is currently the most compact 5-inch phone smartphone in market, as well as the first in the world to be capable of 4K HDR video recording. It also has Full HD 960FPS super slow motion capture.

There is also a clear push towards mobile entertainment with these devices. In addition to the extended 5.7-inch display, the XZ2 also incorporates BRAVIA TV technology, X-reality for mobile (which converts content to near-HDR) and front facing stereo speakers that feature S-Force surround sound.

Sony has also introduced a brand new Dynamic Vibration System to the XZ2. This incorporates haptic vibrations into the viewing experience, so you can feel as well as watch movies, TV and games.

“The immersive entertainment features available in the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are inspired by a significant shift in consumer behaviour in Australia,” explained Sony Mobile’s Managing Director of Oceania, John Featherstone.

“According to our new consumer research, 40 per cent of millennial Australians consider their smartphone their primary source for creating and consuming entertainment content. Because of this, there is a growing desire for mobile technology that elevates the emotional and sensory experience of consuming content on the go.”

“With camera, screen and sound technology that is world-first for a smartphone, we’re excited the Xperia XZ2 will make mobile immersive entertainment a reality for Australians to both create and consume,” added John.

Here are the key specs of the XZ2:

  • 1080 x 2160, 5.7-inch, 18:9 Full HD+ HDR display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU
  • 19MP rear, 5MP front cameras
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB storage
  • 3180 mAh battery with wireless Qi charging
  • 153 x 72 x 11.1mm, 198g
  • USB Type-C connecction

There are only a few difference when it comes to the XZ2 Compact. Firstly, it’s only 5 inches and the dimensions come in at 135 x 65x 12.1mm. It also has a smaller battery – 2,870 mAh.
