Acer has just announced its brand new gaming laptop. With an 8th Gen Intel 19+ processor and overclockable NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics – this bad boy means business.
The Helios 500 takes things further than its 300 from last year. In addition to being more powerful, it has added a 17.3-inch screen (with either a 4K 144Hz or 1080p display as well as the ability it insert a beefier graphics card and processor.
For anyone concerned about heat (which is fair with a unit like this) Acer has developed thermal architecture with its AeroBlade 3D metal fans which will apparently keep the Helios 500 cool, even when you’re gaming for long periods of time.
Here are some of the key specs:
- 8th Gen Intel® Core i9+/i7/i5 processors
- 17.3-inch ultra HD (3840×2160) IPS/FHD (1920×1080) 144Hz display
- NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1070 graphics
- 16GB DDR4 memory, upgradeable to 64GB using four soDIMM modules
- Up to 1TB SSD
- IceTunnel 2.0
- 428 x 298 x 38.7mm, 4kg

Acer also a brand new line of gaming rigs – the Predator X. The plan is to utilise Intel’s commercial Xeon processors for gaming. Sadly, that’s all that’s been revealed so far. We may have to wait until IFA or the next Next@Acer conference in Berlin later in the year.
We don’t have Australian prices or a release date yet, sorry folks!
