Acer’s New Notebook Weighs Less Than 1kg

Quite a few surprises came out of Acer’s global press conference. And while it may seem like the new Predator offerings were dominating the conversation, there were some non-gaming announcements that stirred the audience too.

One of these was the new Swift 5, the first 15-inch laptop in market to weigh under 1kg.

Acer really have a thing for firsts when it comes to 15-inch laptops this year. Yesterday we talked a bit about the Spin 15 – the first Chrome convertible of its size. And while I personally preferred the smaller 13-inch Spin, it’s interesting to see the company try some new things with slightly larger laptops.

In addition to the weight reduction, the Swift 15 is offering a maximised screen and minimised bezels – which is good news for anyone who likes to have as much screen real estate as possible.

Here are the key specs we know of so far:

  • 8th gen Intel core processor
  • 15-inch display
  • 16GM RAM
  • Up to 1TB SSD storage
  • Fingerprint reader

In terms of connections, we’re looking at 1 x HDMI, 2 x USB Type-C ports, 2 x USB 3.1 Type-A ports and an SD card reader.

That’s it so far, but even that small taste has made us incredible curious to see what the finished product is going to look (and perform) like.

We don’t have the Australian pricing or release date. But considering the lack of working model and spec info at Next@Acer, it could be awhile?
