Whoa, There’s A Lot To Unpack In This Latest Trailer For The Handmaid’s Tale

Video: The next season of The Handmaid’s Tale takes us away from the book and into a whole new world. Based on this latest trailer, it’s going to be an intense ride.

Entertainment Weekly has previewed the latest trailer for season two of The Handmaid’s Tale. Last we left off, June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) was in the back of a police van headed to safety or repercussions (most likely the latter). But even if she’s still trapped in Gilead, that doesn’t mean she isn’t free.

There’s a lot going on in this trailer. I’ve already watched it a couple of times and I’m still trying to process everything it shares. We see Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) trying to cope with the loss of Offred – either by blaming his wife Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) or threatening to shoot some people in the woods. We see more of the Colonies, and an appearance by Marisa Tomei, who joins the cast this season. There’s a creepy wedding featuring Gilead’s officers and an even creepier mass hanging of handmaids (a previous trailer indicates that Offred might be part of that). Plus, a whole bunch more.

It’s really worth watching at least a couple of times to get a hint of how much is in store. The Handmaid’s Tale returns April 26.
