Compared to the most of the other TV-bound superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who receive their abilities after accidents caused by Roxxon, Cloak and Dagger actually have some truly impressive powers. In the latest promotional teaser for the impending Freeform show, you get a better look at just how the kids’ abilities work and learn more about their lives.
The teaser doesn’t do much to explain how Tyron and Tandy gain their respective abilities to manipulate the Darkforce and to form “daggers” out of concentrated hard light. But it does compare and contrast the heroes’ lives, while also keying in on the things they have in common. Tyrone, a well-off student from the good side of town, struggles to control his ability to travel through space using the Darkforce as a gateway. Tandy, who lives on the other side of the tracks, has to get by by pickpocketing while also figuring out just what her light daggers do.
Neither teen seems to know all that much about their powers, but the one thing they might have in common is buried beneath the local cemetery they both end up at by the spot’s end. There’s no telling whether Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger will be able to stand up to the likes of Hulu’s Runaways, but we’ll be meeting the teen duo of heroes soon enough when the show drops on June 7.
