In March, We Shall Play Some Serious #WarGames

The new interactive WarGames reboot, this time going by #WarGames, has a brand-new teaser trailer and release date… showing how the new era of hacktivism probably won’t be solved with a game of Tic-tac-toe.

Eko announced today that #WarGames, created by Sam Barlow (Her Story), will be released online March 14. The six-episode season tells the story of Kelly, a hacker seeking justice for her family, who works with a team of international hackers to try and make the world better. Only problem is… they’re probably making everything much, much worse. Viewers click through different “feeds” to influence the story and the series will reportedly learn from their choices, making it a different experience for every viewer.

The original WarGames was a campy but beloved flick starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy as hackers who accidentally activate an AI that starts playing war simulation games with real missiles. This one looks to be a bit more serious, focusing more on doxxing and other forms of modern hacking. But if the whole thing is solved by having an AI play a round of Angry Birds until it realises that the angriest bird of all is needless war, consider me hooked.

#WarGames will be released on Eko’s website and app, as well as Vudu and Steam. There are also plans for it to come out on Xbox One.
