Sony only announced its plans for a 2019 Men in Black spinoff in September last year, but the studio might have already found one of its stars in the form of the God of Thunder himself.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Chris Hemsworth has entered early talks to star in the 2019 spinoff – now set for June 14 – and F. Gary Grey, director of Fate of the Furious, is still in talks to direct after being rumoured earlier this month.
Much is still unknown about the movie, other than it is allegedly separate from the previous adventures of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith as Agents K and J. THR says it’s meant to focus on a white man (presumably the role Hemsworth is up for), a woman of colour, and an older man. With Hemsworth involved you can bet they’re aiming for something very funny.
Presumably, this means the film is more of a soft reboot than a complete re-imagining of the rich fiction of the Men in Black saga, but otherwise, we’ll have to wait and see what Sony has planned. Surely if it’s set to hit theatres on June 14, 2019, we’ll be hearing more concrete details soon.
