The Roswell Reboot Has Found Its Lead Actress

Roswell, everyone’s favourite ’90s show about hiding aliens and sexy angst, is returning to television. Now, it has a star.

Jeanine Mason, an actress known mostly for a recurring role as Dr Sam Bello on Grey’s Anatomy, will be heading up the show as Liz Ortecho, Deadline reports, who the official summary calls “a jaded biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants.” This (presumably Earth-native) heroine will be our window into the extraterrestrial problems plaguing Roswell, as she discovers that her teenage crush is an alien and joins him in seeking out the secrets of his heritage.

Mason also played a role on the very short-lived Of Kings And Prophets, and has done guest spots on Criminal Minds, You’re The Worst, and Major Crimes. She’s also a dancer, and actually won the fifth season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Bello’s co-stars have yet to be revealed, but she’ll be joined by writer Carina Adly MacKenzie and director by Julie Plec, both of whom worked on Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals. Like the original show, this iteration of Roswell is based on the Roswell High series of books written by Melinda Metz. Here’s hoping the drama quotient is off the charts.
