That Freaky Bot-Written Harry Potter Chapter Got Turned Into A Freaky Cartoon

Video: The sky as a great black ceiling full of blood. Hagrid’s shrieking furniture. Harry dipping Hermione in hot sauce. Instead of just reading the wacky adventure, now you can watch all these moments from the predictive keyboard opus Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash come to life, shambling like creatures that shouldn’t exist.

Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash – produced by the pranksters at Botnik – made us all laugh and feel funny inside when it made the rounds a few weeks ago. (Did you see their Star Trek: The Next Generation follow-up?)

As you can see below, it’s even better as a cartoon. The trippy video features the animation of Jamie Loftus and voicework by Rachael Wright. (You’ve gotta think she busted a gut laughing with reading these lines in the booth, right?)

Seeing Large Pile of Ash animated like this really drives home the casual horror contained in its passages. It’s one thing to read “Ron was going to be spiders” and imagine it in your head. It’s another to see poor ol’ Weasley’s noggin on a bunch of arachnids. Sweet dreams, children.
